Reading:

-      Reading will be done both inside and outside of the classroom.  The best way to become a better reader is to read.

-      In-class reading will consist of novels, short stories, plays, etc.

-      Each student will have an appropriate self-selected personal reading book that they must have with them at all times.  Reading for this book will be done at home and in-class.  They’ll be required to turn in a weekly reading log for this book.

-      Many times in class we’ll have extended periods of sustained silent reading.  During this quiet time, the students and teacher will read a selection of their choice.

-      Reading Response Journals: in these in-class journals students will reflect on what we read and other relevant topics.
